What anime is everyone watching Spring season of 2015?
I'd personally like to recommend Ore Monogatari as a super duper sweet shoujo with a surprisingly different male lead than your average ones. Other than this, I'm also watching Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu, which is okay, Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, which is mediocre at best and will probably be dropped, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid, Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ga Wakaranai Ken 2, and Gintama '15.

It's been a while, but I recently finished Kokoro Connect, which was really sweet and thought-provoking (and often hilarious) and Sakamichi no Apollon which was such a charming show, with some gorgeous animation and music. The story was predictable, as were the characters, but it's one of those odd shows you don't really watch for the plot, but for the general atmosphere and mood. It was such a soothing 12 episodes!
I'm currently watching and nearly finished Haibane Renmei, an older anime that I've been really enjoying. I guess it's a sort of slice-of-life/fantasy hybrid? But the setting is quite unique, as it takes place in a sort of afterlife inhabited by angel-like beings. It's another really mellow anime, but definitely has its darker moments.
And finally, I've dropped (or at least, put on hiatus) Persona 4 and Sailor Moon Crystal. P4 wasn't really grabbing me, even though I loved the game; Sailor Moon Crystal, I just... couldn't. I was bored to tears most of the time, and felt like half the fun in watching that series was looking out for the art screw-ups xD;

Is Haibane Renmei good? I read Murakami's Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World earlier this year, which Haibane Renmei is based on, so I've been meaning to watch it. Wasn't a huge fan of the book but I'm intrigued by the anime. Plus, I've had it recommended a few times anyway.
I can't remember if I ever finished the P4 anime, it is not good. I've also stopped with Sailor Moon Crystal... yeah, the plot is better but part of what makes the old anime good is the charm and the friendship, which just isn't there in Crystal. Didn't finish the manga for the same reason.

Whoa, I had no idea Haibane was based on a Murakami novel! I haven't read that one in particular, but after googling around a bit, I found that it's apparently a 'deconstructive homage': "Many aspects of the setting are deliberately similar to that of Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami, but the series presents the setting very differently and is almost diametrically opposed to the novel thematically, presenting a much more communalist and generally positive outlook". Interesting! I think it's good. It explores some interesting themes, and the setting is definitely the most intriguing part of the anime. It's pretty slow-moving at times, and there isn't much of a plot until near the end, but as it's only 12 episodes, these things aren't too bothersome. It was sold to me as a more mellow, less over-the-top Angel Beats, if you've seen that - both take place in an afterlife of sorts, and both involve characters who don't quite remember how they got there. So yeah, I'd recommend it if any of that appeals to you! It's definitely got charm, and I particularly like the atmosphere: very gray and dreary and rundown, contrasted with a (mostly) cheerful and light-hearted story sprinkled with existential musings. P4TA did not sit well with me, but I can't put my finger on what they should have done differently? I didn't care for Narukami's character, and I feel like Yosuke's level of annoying was turned up to 11, but the rest didn't seem terribly mishandled - I just got bored, very quickly. Maybe it was just doomed from the start, being an anime adaptation of a video game that I'd already sunk like 90 hours into? . And yeah, that's exactly what turned me off from Crystal. All of the characters felt incredibly bland and superfluous - no charm or semblance of being real people whatsoever. Then there was the art. Yeah.

So! Anybody watching anything good lately? I feel like I've been on a bit of a hot streak with my choices lately! I've been enjoying a lot of anime: Zankyou no Terror - This one was probably the most flawed of my recent choices. It took me quite a while to get into, and it's not cracking any Top lists of mine anytime soon, but it was great for a one-off experience. It's one of those shows that is either made or broken by its ending, and in this case, I loved the ending, which left me with a pretty positive impression overall. More than anything, it's one of the most gorgeously animated shows I've seen, period. Visually and aurally, this anime is a treat, and the thought-provoking themes it pokes at are fascinating too. Gatchaman Crowds - I loved pretty much every moment of this zany anime. It works on so many levels, but my favourites have to be the way it deconstructs the Superhero (and to an extent, Mahou Shoujo?) genre(s), and how much social commentary it makes on the presence of social media and technology in general in our lives. It's also such a... breezy show, in a way? It's hard to explain, but I feel like so much of the social commentary and character development just happens in such an effortless way, and you're only really hit by it in retrospect. It's pretty fantastic. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. - Another fantastic watch, if only for taking a good, hard look at the tired, played-out, cringe-inducing 'romantic comedy' genre of anime and being willing to deconstruct it. It's cheeky and snarky and wonderfully well-written, with characters that feel like actual characters rather than romcom tropes. It's a cathartic watch for anyone who's rolled their eyes a few too many times at the dime-a-dozen, shallow anime rom-coms! Steins;gate - Can you tell I've been making my way through this list? Haha. I only just finished Episode 12 (which was... wow), so no spoilers please! But I'm really, really loving this anime. Like, a lot. It's one of the rare instances where I have a hard time putting it down - I just need to know what happens next. This is another great instance of an anime that treats its characters like more than tropes, and there's so much charm among the main cast and their interactions that the show could have easily just stuck to a slice of life genre and still been super engaging. But throw in all the time-traveling and the drama and the mystery, and I can see why so many people regard this show as a masterpiece. I'm certainly on my way to that conclusion myself~

As I said in the Kindan No Resistance thread, I've been watching Cross Ange and finished it a week or two ago. It was better then I expected it to be, actually. The scriptwriters for this anime just needed to ditch the sexual scenes that sometimes happened in these series. I cringed when these scenes happened (The yuri scenes, the Tusk-falls-right-on-Ange's-crotch scenes, the final scene with the main antagonist...), but when the actual proper story continued, that was quite fun to see.
SPOILER HERE: The only thing that I immediately knew from the start of this anime, the DRAGONs weren't the real badguys in the first place. I just felt somewhere that someone bigger needed to be the antagonist. The whole story about why they had to fight the DRAGONs asn't completely trustworthy in the first place.
I think it was an interesting watch, to see weak Anglise, who gets all the things she ever wants change into strong Ange, fighting for what she thinks is right. The character that I most disliked from these series was Zola Axberg (Had to search for her name since... I cannot remind ever hearing it.) just because she was such a... perverted character. The people who have seen these series know what I'm talking about. Also, Ange's brother Julio, I quite disliked him, but you were supposed to dislike him for being such a coward, so...
Now I'm watching the second season of Owari No Seraph, and I'm really looking forward to see the rest. It's getting better and better and... Yuu + Mika = the recipe to make Loro's 'kokoro' melt. I'm so weeaboo.
I've started Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid yesterday and have seen two episodes of it. I will probably finish it this week already since it has only 12 episodes. I started watching it because I was bored and didn't knew what to watch, so since I'm getting this anime's opening single, why not watch these series as well? I loved StrikerS, the third season of Nanoha, but I'm sure this one won't be on the same level as that one. I still hope it's going to be a fun watch though.
This year I haven't watched that many animes, but many of the series that I watched got a third season! I've watched the third season of Junjou Romantica and seriously, it was THE BEST SEASON. The art was so much better, Misaki finally confessed his feelings and... aw. It was adorable, and Usagi's Niece (Nana actually voiced that character) got a lot more screen time this season, which I was very happy about, since that character is HILARIOUS.
The other third season I watched was of Uta No Prince Sama and it was quite alright. Maybe I expected too much of this season. The characters felt quite... off. Out of character or something, but at least my favorites felt alright. The ending was very stupid (won't spoil!) but at least we'll get season 4 in like, a year or two it seems... I hope that one won't be disappointing me like this season did. It wasn't bad, so maybe it was just that I expected too much.
And last but not least, I watched season three of Symphogear. Favorite season out of all of them. This was the first season where I didn't cringe at the character songs, I didn't cringe at even one of them. A lot of people seem to like this anime for the songs but I actually don't care much about them. Tsubasa and Maria are my favorites, and the songs that these two characters have I do kind of like. Maria's new Airgetlám attire is so pretty! Her new weapon is awesome as well, she got much more personality this season.
Seems this year was a Nanoha year for me, since I watched it all just because Nana got more known because of this series. I didn't watch the first two seasons, but I watched the first and second movie, since they capture the story of these seasons in them. Then I watched StrikerS and now ViVid. I didn't expect this series to be like this at all. I really like Fate a lot (Nana's voice acting in this series is amazing) but I think Nanoha is my favorite overal. She had a lot of character development in the series, and I liked it a lot. I'm not a fan of Yukari Tamura so that's not the reason that I like this character. I don't like Yukari's personality that much, nor the way she sings, but I think she did a good job as the voice for Nanoha.
