Lamenting the Canonization of -type EXCITER-

Hi friends.

So this is probably an inappropriate time given that the album is here for some and on the horizon for others, but I needed to get this out. Don't read this yet if you would prefer to stay in the land of hype for the album.

Never have I felt more disappointment toward a Nana song than I do when listening to "Koi no Yokushiryoku -type EXCITER-" Back when the original was leaked, I and a few others on the net mistook it for the fourth single to be released before "IMPACT EXCITER" sometime in April. It was absolutely heavenly and actually indicative of Nana's evolving sound. Unlike many of her other character songs, which sound much more dated, "Koi no Yokushiryoku" felt right on the cutting edge of Nana's releases at the time. After realizing it was a character song, everyone was rightfully speculating that it would make the album a'la "Aoki Hikari no Hate -ULTIMATE MODE-" before it, and I was more excited for that than for the release of any of the album's three singles.

But then the album came and track 10 rolled around, ushering in a filtered voice and a stifled chorus that lacked the explosive force of its origin, instead choosing to emphasize the beat over Nana's soaring, emotive voice.

Did anyone else feel the kind of intense disappointment that I experienced? The original was an absolute gift--completely unexpected and beyond incredible--but "type EXCITER" was a muffled and restrained version of a song that begged for release. It made me sad, especially considering how much more elegant the revamp of "Aoki Hikari no Hate" was. Am I alone here, though? Does anyone prefer "type EXCITER" to the original? Someone convince me that my ears are misguided so that I might try again to force myself to enjoy the revamp more than the original--because I try every time I listen to it.

The original version used in MGS Ground Zeroes was also pretty freaking autotuned.

There is no good studio version of Koi no Yokushiryoku, and it's been long replaced by Aishuu Twilight as my #1 favorite Nana song anyway.

Honestly, I don't think there's enough of an appreciable difference to my ears that I'd be upset about the changes. I don't find the original anymore explosive than type EXCITER, and I think I actually prefer the vocals in type EXCITER... but maybe that's because I'm just more used to the latter now. ^^;

I dunno, I'll try listening to both a bit more equally and maybe I'll start to notice the differences, but I can't say I shared your disappointment when I listened to IMPACT EXCITER. Still loved the song as much as before! At least we can agree that it is a seriously awesome song

i did earpiece hearing to hear the detail
for me i more into music ^^;; so i rarely get disappoint about it XD
they did a great job for enhancing the music in Koi no Yokushiryoku
my guess is that the theme of that album is like robot/techno feel?
so they try to enhance it nearly into that theme ^^;;;

I can secretly quite understand you, hot0rikun967. I first heard the original Koi No Yokushiryoku too, and I was amazed by it. I found it on youtube, it was the dance video of it, but then mirrored, so that you could learn the dance. I first found out about Nana by watching Rosario+Vampire. Then I found her again when I watched The Professor Layton movie. And somehow, Koi No Yokushiryoku found it's way to me too, even though I didn't even know about Metal Gear Solid at that time. I was amazed by it, and learned the funny odd choreography that was shown in the video. Her voice was so passionate in it, and I loved every second of the song to bits.

And then, I downloaded IMPACT EXCITER to see the song... kind of ruined. That was my first reaction on it. 'What the hell is this background noise?' I now have grown used to the background beat, but I must say, it's a bit overwhelming, and it sounds like they gave Nana's voice some kind of audio effect in the -type EXCITER- version. Don't ask me why though. Her voice was already amazing in the original version, they didn't need to put her vocals down like that. The music is a bit too much. Let me listen to this song again on my way to school. Maybe I'll be able to voice my opinion on it a bit better.

Edit: Have listened to the -type EXCITER- version again, and I must say that it isn't horrible. I was a bit disappointed by the changed edition at first, but I wouldn't say it's bad. She has better arranged new editions of songs though.
