Wow, that is will power!
I did that with Rock'n'Roll Circus, and never again lol It wasn't the wait that killed me, it was the disappointment when I finally listened to the album! It was made even worse because of all the way I'd built it up when I got it lol

XD I've been doing it since Secret (and did it partially with (m)u), so you'd think it'd be easier over time but... Nope. Haven't heard or seen any previews! I'd always contemplated ignoring Ayu's releases for a year just so I could see what it'd be like to pick up an Ayumi Hamasaki album with 100% new content to listen to from start to finish... but Party Queen luckily saves me from having to put myself through that So I definitely didn't want to pass it up by downloading it early. Though I did have to listen to Party Queen while watching the CDL :x Skipped HBYA, though.

I'm too impatient with music for something like that. There are a few things I could wait for, where I KNOW the music is really special and I'll be listening to it for years. Isn't really the case with Ayu anymore, I'm kinda bored with Party Queen already! ...and it's not even out yet lol

I'd disagree on both points, actually~
I think she's aged amazingly on her own, but for whatever reason it seems like avex/photographers/marketers/whoever's in charge of her make-up and photoshoots doesn't seem to agree. Imo, they manage to make her look a lot older by caking on the makeup and the photoshop. I've always found she looks best during lives or in her few photoshoots that are more natural.

Even in her lives I don't think she looks that good anymore. I think she has 100% had something done to her lips - I hope it's only temporary and she doesn't keep going back, they're huge. All the time. Not just the lip plump/photoshop/pout. And possibly the bit between her lips and her nose. She looks like her default face is pout. D:
Her stylist also needs firing, now. Whoever does her hair and makeup need to go. At 30 she just cannot pull of the short curl look the Rimmel ads give her, adds 10 years, easily.
It's like... before this and FIVE she looked great, she looked her age, she looked great. I've never thought she looks younger, like people like Nana or Namie do. But now, suddenly, she looks really bad, and I don't think it's just the styling, because she's looking consistently bad. :S
Tbh, I think it's because she lost weight. She was nice and curvy during Next Level, now she's a stick.

Oh, I should mention that I got Party Queen and am quite in love with it I'll admit that on first listen I wasn't in as quite a state of euphoria as I usually am when listening to a new Ayu album (NaNaNa and Shake it were very... uh, interesting choices to essentially open up the album, and that kind of put me off a bit), but I can't stop listening to the album and after a few listens even the songs I wasn't fond of have grown on me immensely. My favourites at this point are call, Letter, and E,S,M. Return Road is amazing too, as is the PV, and I've loved Party Queen since the CDL, so those two come nicely in second.

Watching some Dome Tour videos.
UGH. It's just so flawless. She looks flawless (ignoring the outfits, that is, as usual lol). The stage is flawless. Her voice is flawless. The setlist is easily one of her best. The songs that later became staples are performed with such energy and vibrancy, compared to this, I get why people hate seeing them now, even if they are energetic.
The dress for M is still the most hideous thing ever though lol

Dome Tour is one of my absolute least favorite Ayumi tours. It was tacky and had the worst vocals of her career next to the CTs and AT02(the amount of autotuning on the DVD is disgusting), she looked like a fake little doll, the outfits were horrible...I can't stand it xD

If Ayu's outfits were horrible and doll like then, wtf is she now? lol Ugh, I need Power of Music instrumentals. Especially NEVER EVER and Blossom, singing totally ruined them. And, I don't know why she bothers singing her old stuff anymore, she sounds like a different person, and the songs don't suit her voice. Lookin' at you Trilogy. Same for monochrome. Part of what made monochrome great was the harsh industrial sound, doesn't work with a rockier arrangement. Unsure if I love or hate M, her voice sounds amazing, but just why did she rock it up? I guess she couldn't sing it as an epic winter ballad like she used too now though. The lyrics and message of the song don't suit her new rock style. Why isn't A Song is Born on the audio CD? That performance was beautiful.

I thought her new vocals greatly improved her old songs. I can't stand listening to her albums before Memorial Address for more than 10 minutes at a time and only enjoy her old songs sang starting around 2005. Natural vocals >>> forced soprano that fucks up her vocal chords.
And I think her outfits nowadays are much less horrible and doll like. She actually wears some welldesigned outfits now, not the crap she had early on. AT02 was where her outfits started to not all look horrible anymore. Her last few concerts haven't been as good on that side as the ones 2006-2010(AT06, AT07 and AT10 had her best outfits, easily), but still good. She looks like a person now, a pop performer, but a person, before she looked like a preteen mess wearing a plastic mask. Looking at 2000-2001 Ayu especially here. The whole original M and evolution looks...ugh...they may have been better seen in that time but I just find her whole look there incredible tacky, not formfitting at all and just plain...ugly.
And did you really enjoy her vocals in M? M and progress are the two songs she fucked up at PoM, she was practically unable to hit a single note in those, her vocals were almost as forced as early in her career. Then again, the only good M performances vocally(CDL0405, AT07) were playback so this might as well be the best live one she's done.

I think ideal Ayu for me, is A BALLADS Ayu, but old Ayu is how Ayu sounds to me. Dodgey lives and all, that voice is like an old friend. How she sounds now it totally different. AT06 is automatically in the crap outfit list because of that hideous red wig, ugh. She tends to look best in her encore outfits, casual always suits her best. I liked the first set of PoM outfits, but then they got tacky too. Ayu always looks tacky though lol You mention that M sounded as forced as her old voice, probably why I liked it lol Decided that I hate the new arrangement. I don't care if AT07 was all playback, that duo of M and appears is so magical. She actually looked good in that concert too. I love AT07.

AT07 had seriously amazing costumes, but I reeeally didn't like her hair. AT06 her hair looked amazing and most of the costumes were good. Honestly, appearance-wise, nothing beats 2005-early 2006 for me. The brown hair, the sidebangs, everything about it is just love <3 AT08's outfits were pretty unremarkable for the most part, though I loooved the my name's WOMEN one, AT09's were pretty cheap looking, AT10's were some of her best, seriously. PoM's were back to looking somewhat cheap, but we all know that concert was performed under verrrry different circumstances.
I'm reluctant to get into vocals, though XD I really don't know, I love both her current vocals and her younger ones.
I love the original version of M and loved the PoM version. I dunno, never once in POWER of MUSIC did I expect to hear any of the old songs sound like their original recordings, and never did I expect them to improve upon them either. I can't really explain it but those just weren't things that I even thought about until I saw people on forums discussing it - I just watched them, LOVED them (got goosebumps from M, fell in love with vogue and Far away, sobbed throughout a song is born, etc) and added them to my library as great alternate versions.
It might just be that I consider classic-era Ayu and current-era Ayu to be so separate that it just doesn't make sense in my mind to compare them anymore. Well, that isn't exactly how I see it, but that's the closest I can apparently get to putting what's going through my mind into words XD I'm really just so whatever to all the old Ayu vs new Ayu debates (which has been around forever, of course, but 2011 brought it to whole new levels). I love what Ayu's doing now and I loved what she did then.
