I'm not sure if this is 100% true, but I've seen people on the internet (on AHS and Tumblr and such) going on about Mediafire apparently being called to testify in the next 90 days This is beyond depressing

Mediafire's starting to delete files nao When things get desperate, might as well download from deviantART or something @_@

NO.
I won't let this happen. All the others can go, but please let mediafire stay ;__;

First megaupload, then filesonic and fileserve, now mediafire? Oh my...there'll be new sites popping up soon but this is still horrible.

Mediafire was my favourite of the bunch I read an article by the CEO of it though saying that he was confident Mediafire would have nothing to worry about, except perhaps taking down a lot of downloads. According to their "business model", Mediafire is meant to be more business and storage-oriented, whereas Megaupload apparently promoted piracy by giving incentives such as bonuses for people uploading popular videos or things like that. Mediafire claims to be just a better alternative to sending e-mail attachments, allowing people to upload bigger files than a single e-mail would allow. I dunno how true all of that is, but I hope his confidence is well-placed :\ I'm sure there'll be a sweep of some kind with tons of downloads going down, but that might be the best case scenario if it means we get to keep MF.

Just the thought of losing mediafire strikes fear into my heart, if not for the music than for the multitude of translations hosted on it. Fortunately, if the company is using that argument, they do have a decent way to defend their case. Even if downloads are taken then, at least there will still be a space where they can be uploaded again. Otherwise, don't take out fire away! T___T Though I have to agree with you ranrannyan, it feels like we're getting desperate enough to get to that point @__@.

Mediafire has been my favorite. I liked it much more than MU, both FSs, and others. This is very sad news.

I was wondering, given that the crackdown on downloading websites happened right afterward, what are most peoples thoughts on SOPA, PIPA and ACTA (granted, I'm sure there won't be anyone who supports it, but there's no harm in asking right? ^^ and the internet 'revolution' that resulted. This blog explains the terms and ambiguity of it all pretty well, in case people wanted more information =D. blog.reddit.com/2012/01/technical-examination-of-sopa-and.html
