Anyone like her? Or dislike her? Post your thoughts here, and we can discuss! I'd like to know people's thoughts on "ARTPOP". If this is a stupid thread, I'm sorry, and I'll delete it. I just wanted to find more common interests with people who share my most important interest (Nana )

I'm a huge fan. Going to see her live in June ! ARTPOP is my favorite album of hers despite the mixed review its receiving. Im particularly attracted to "Venus", "Sexxx Dreams" "ARTPOP" "Gypsy" and Donatella. Id say those are my favorites. Glad to see other fans on here, haha

Please don't ever think that a thread is too stupid to be created! That will rarely, rarely, ever be the case Having a wide array of things to discuss is always desirable in a forum. Carry on!

Thanks Sai! ^_^
And ohmygoshreally sevenpetals!? Gahhh! I wish I had the money to buy a tickets I really really wanted to go. I feel like ARTPOP has really been unfairly treated. It's almost as if the blogosphere played a factor in its lower sales because negative voices are the loudest.
"Venus" was SO weird for me at first, but now, oh my gosh I just can't stop singing it. It's soooo catchy. I'm just like, walking around my house (and dorm when it came out and I was in school), perhaps the best lyrics ever written...
Aphrodite Lady, Seashell Bikini, Garden Pantie VENUS!
And yeah "Sexxx Dreams" and "Gypsy" were amazing. "Do What U Want" and "Aura" are my two favorites, and I'm really disappointed about the delay and demise of the DWUW video. Also from what I've heard, "G.U.Y." is the next single. Weird pick. I would've gone for "Gypsy" or "Sexxx Dreams" (that one would've been fun :3 ).

I don't understand. Why is she losing relevancy when the industry still has room for female pop/EDM singers, especially with Ke$ha on her hiatus (get well soon <3). I suspected that 2014 would continue the trend of more minimalistic songs grasping real attention as opposed to the highly-produced music Gaga is known for. As a an example, we can look at Pharell's "Happy" topping the charts for a few weeks now. But honestly, "G.U.Y." should not have debuted at #18 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100. This is Lady Gaga we're talking about, and honestly, it feels as though it was the blogosphere's job to make sure her return to the music scene was doomed to fail. I'm not speaking as a fan, although clearly I am, but I'm speaking as someone who pays attention to music trends and pop culture trends. I can't for the life of me figure out why Gaga is losing her relevancy after only six-or-so years in the game. If the industry needed a unique album to fill 2013, "ARTPOP" certainly served as the only pop album with such intense EDM influences and plenty of songs experimental yet radio-friendly enough to serve as singles. Was the collaboration with R. Kelly probably a bad idea? Yeah, probably. Was the decision to simply not release the "Do What U Want" video a bad idea? Yeah, probably, too. Was the "Applause" video nonsense? Absolutely not. It was a highly sophisticated Gaga video that garnered massive views. Hence it performed well on the charts, but not quite enough to hit #1 nor beat out Katy Perry's incredibly formulaic and generic "Roar", which again leads me to believe that the industry is reverting back to a time when less was more. Beyonce's latest album is new, but old. "Drunk In Love" sounds like 2014, but it also sounds like 2002. Pharell's "Happy" is reminiscent of one-hit-wonder mid-2000s songs, yet it's #1. Back in 2013, "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky" were certainly two odd tracks to garner so much popularity, because just a year ago in 2012, EDM was beginning to really take the industry by storm. There were EDM gems in 2013, i.e. Zedd's "Clarity", but Ke$ha failed to make much of an impact due most likely to awful management by Dr. Luke, the latest J.Lo x Pitbull collab didn't break the top 50, and Gaga struggled the entire year--that's right, even before "ARTPOP" was released. And so, I assumed that two things were to happen come 2014: Gaga would release her next single and take the industry by storm again, or EDM would decline after barely scratching the surface in pop music. Again, looking to J.Lo's recent release, "I Luh Ya Papi", it sounds more like J.Lo from the early 2000s than anything recent of hers produced by RedOne. But then 2014 began with Pitbull's "Timber" topping the charts. What? So Ke$ha returns as a featured artist in a generic dance-pop track that everyone loves, yet when Gaga releases "G.U.Y.", a song with lyrical depth and interesting production, it fails to receive any real attention. What's going on? The last few years in music have been predictable, and I anticipated a change for this year, as I saw it coming last year. But seriously, what are you 2014?
Honestly, it will be interesting to see what impact Ariana Grande's next album makes on the pop scene and if pop music really does revert back to mid-2000s R&B/Hip-hop (as she did mention she was done her old-school phase and I assume she's branching out into urban music a la "Right There"). if that happens, could that mean that Mariah Carey actually had a chance of making the comeback we've been waiting for since 2009? With her last four or so singles making very little impact despite being absolutely gorgeous, one has to wonder when Mimi will return with another song of the decade--a "We Belong Together" part 2 should, if this theoretical trajectory is correct, be possible.
We'll have to wait and see.
tl;dr: "G.U.Y." is a stellar, underrated song and video, and it's confusing why it's not making the splash it should.
