Well, she definitely would not make an english song without months of english work because her engrish is pretty horrific (but cute none the less!) at times lets be honest with ourselves.. xD I think she would re-release. Anisong is sort of popular in america and world wide (probably why alot of us are on this site even lol). Ive converted several people into nana-fanatics, or nana-tards if you like that one. They usually say "hey, iveheard her sing or voice hinata or someone 1 famous" and im like yeah.. now try her normal discography that isnt just high energy auto tune and they fall in love all over again <3 I dont think she really could change her sound, it is kind of her. Yes, shes pretty good at experimenting.. but shes not gonna pull a "Spending all my Time" on us lol.. maybe more songs like Get my Drift, more pop (hook wise) and less ani-song pop.. I typically think of ani-song pop as just way cuter and catchier pop, or very dramatic pop (Scarlet Knight ftw!) If people gave her a chance I know they'd love her lol. Honestly, i know shes still trying to conquer Japan so I dont expect it any time soon, but i know for sure id go fly out to california (most likely where it'd be) and visit my relatives "lol excuse" just to go see her in a heart beat Im welcome to the idea though..in the next 3+ years xD Im not sure how successful she would be here though.. i mean look how Utada Hikaru did.. admittedly, americans really only knew her through her japanese music + Kingdom Hearts... Maybe Nana could expand her anime song opening tie -ins xD I know so many people dont stay around to watch Endings always xD! i dont even always myself She needs a synchrogazer, but 2x more epic to catch everyone by surprise and just insta fav tons of people lol

Yeah, I can't see her really entering the mainstream market at all. I mean, many J-pop singers who are much more "Western" than Nana (Hikki, BoA, etc.) tried and failed to make a real splash, and Nana's appearance and sound and general personality/demeanor are very very 'asian'. The most I could see her doing is maybe an Anime convention concert or something?
If she sang for a show that was doing really well here, then I could see something being sparked. But even then, as big as anime has become, it's not really big enough to make household names out of those associated with it.

If Nana had a concert in california I could die happy
I just hope she makes an appearance here sometime before she - dare I say it - retires.

In order for her to have success in the West, I think "otaku culture" would have to be more warm and inviting and comforting. It's unfortunate but I think Nana's success in the West would be closely tied to the success of the nerdier, more anime aspects of Japanese culture. I think the most mainstream success she would have in North America would be if she did intro songs for games or anime, and the song gets cut when it gets ported to NA. Then, people listening to it would be like "hey I like this song," then do research on the song/singer. She's simply not gonna have mainstream success in the West in the same way a certain Korean star has. The problem is that anime fans in the West are not very inviting. They're very insular. To get an idea of what I'm talking about, try reading an Evangelion thread on an anime forum. "If you don't like it you're just shallow sheeple, you don't understand how DEEP and PHILOSOPHICAL this is." Or whatever the underground version of Eva is, talking about how Eva is so shallow and mainstream. Uggghh... that isn't inviting, it only scares people away. I remember joining an anime club in university, and my first day there, we had some idle chit chat about what anime I liked. I mentioned Yugioh, and the people were like "ugggh, go watch some real anime." No wonder people are scared away by this otaku circlejerk. I think so called otaku culture can be approachable. Gurren Lagann fans have it right. I never understood why everyone thinks that series is the greatest thing ever. I enjoyed it but never understood why it's so widely regarded as the greatest thing in the entire universe, but their fanbase is warm and inviting. They don't try to invent some deeper meaning, they just think that what they like is just PURE AWESOMENESS. It's a good show? Why do you like it? IT'S AWESOME THAT'S WHY. Why is any of this relevant? It's relevant because many Japanese games or cartoons that get ported over have their Japanese music replaced by generic instrumental music or worse. I would guess this is because having a really anime sounding Japanese intro song would scare away the "casuals" who just wanna watch an entertaining show without all the baggage that otaku culture carries. Contrast the following intro songs: The first song is the intro to Yugioh, English version. The second is a Japanese intro. The 2nd song is very catch and approachable. Do North Americans really think the first one is more pleasant sounding than the 2nd? I doubt it, but I'm sure it was a marketing decision to make the anime seem as un-anime as possible to reach out to as large a population as possible (why they went as far as changing the in-episode instrumental music is beyond me, the Japanese instrumental music is just straight up epic) The problem I believe are anime enthusiasts that can't talk about their interests without shooting opposing opinions down, or insulting others' intelligence. Alright, you are enthusiastic about a certain show, that's cool. Now please share with me what makes you so enthusiastic about it without trying to attack my family. If this aspect of Japanese culture is made more approachable, it would be more OK for localized Japanese translations to retain Japanese elements (namely the music) How does Nana fit into all this? First of all, any chance she gets at becoming popular would be shot down, since everything she does would just be replaced by some drab orchestral score. Second, I think Nana's work is very approachable. She's popular enough that you won't have music hipsters go "I liked her when she was underground, before she sold out and went mainstream." Uggghh, is there any group of people more annoying than music elitist? Getting back on track, her music is pleasant and upbeat, she has a nice voice, the anime she's affiliated with is very approachable. You won't have anime hipsters talk about how deep and philosophical Rosario Vampire or Nanoha is. The most you have is "Man I like this show, it's so cool." The shame is that people may come to believe her work is not approachable because of all the people trying to claim anime is something more than it actually is. And yes, I do believe Nana's success and approachability in the West is tied to anime's success/approachability in the West.
