Happy REVIVER release day everyone!
I’m kind of sad that the boards haven’t been as active as they have been, but thanks for still providing information for international fans that might stumble on the boards by chance!
marcustherocker Did anyone decide to get the album physically? And if so, what version did you get??
I personally went with the limited edition, it only costs a bit more and the extras are more than worth it imo!
I pre-ordered and received it on release day, and while I was at it I decided to snag a copy of NANA ACOUSTIC ONLINE as well, since CDJapan luckily still had the first press available.
After a few full listens of the album and having both Spiral and Double Shuffle on repeat in the last few weeks to hype up the album I must say I am personally satisfied with the album. It’s like
sevenpetals says, a bit more toned down than her usual albums, which is a direction I’m personally fine with. There are still her iconic power anisong tracks to be found here, but also some easy breezy tunes to simply vibe with. MY ENTERTAINMENT is definitely the return for the interesting and a bang of an album opener. CANNONBALL RUNNING’s high school musical moment Higher Dimension is a cute track, one that should’ve been a bit longer imo, but Carpe Diem will always feel like the true opener of that album personally.
Reboot! is like a more toned down TWIST&TIGER, which will probably make me listen to it more in the long run! It shows off her long notes perfectly and the nanana section makes it a lot of fun. HOLY TALE feels like a ‘let’s go on vacation/adventure!’ explorational track, especially with all of the visuals (sitting in a plane looking through the window, running through an open field, nature shots, a shot of two wine glasses etc.) that where showed in the full album showcase YouTube video. Compliments to her team finally trying something interesting for it this time, providing visuals for all the new tracks and showing the lyrics alongside them!
Stratosphere isn’t anything like I originally expected, which was in fact, a cutesy idol song. Never did I ever expect…this. It’s good, and it showcases something different than other songs Nana has that are simular. It feels weird that it comes right after the ‘get hyped’ Get up! Shout! though. Also this is personally where the album track order starts to gets a bit messy again, but I guess they worked with what they had.
DNA could’ve ditched the subtitle that follows it personally. The -Aufwachen- forms and -Extended- mixes made sense, it served as an indication that it was a new or extended version of something that already existed. That aside, DNA is a super unique track, not like anything in her evergrowing discography and I’ll definitely have it in my summer playlist. Another stand out of the album, for sure!
Stand by you isn’t as forgettable as JEWEL, but lacks a bit in comparison to ALL FOR LOVE, which has surprisingly become one of my favorite CANNONBALL RUNNING tracks. Zenryoku DREAMER is very good, I’m not sure if this is supposed to be the towel song of this era, but the melody is much more memorable compared to her latest towel songs. HOME is cute, I definitely prefer it over UPSETTER, but ever since Nana released Ego Ideal, I am still waiting for a selfcomposed track that comes near it.
Go Live! to end the album with was a smart decision imo, it leaves the album on the right high compared to most of her albums that end with either a ballad that ends it on an anticlimactic note (ROCKBOUND NEIGHBORS’ Yakusoku as an example), and it’s not as in your face as FINAL COMMANDER right at the end. That song is definitely too powerful as an ending to an album.
That is it for my 10 page essay on this album
