Very cool! I wish Nana was my first J-pop singer, but I got Ayu so that's still good too! Just curious, how long have you been listening to her for? I think Meikyuu came out around 2007/2008 so for that long? It seems like a lot of fans here discovered her around 2007 haha.

Hello everyone, Guess I'll put a bit of an intro in here since I'm a long-time lurker, but a first-time poster haha. I'm a huge fan of Nana Mizuki and have been so since I was 14 in 2008. It seems that many people got their first listens of Nana (and JPop) from Shugo Chara...and I'm no different in that regard, although I did watch CCS and liked Maaya Sakamoto's Platinum around that time as well. I used to listen to music quite passively and didn't care much before I heard Nana Mizuki sing to be honest. The first song I heard from Nana was probably Meikyuu Butterfly and I became hooked since then. Nowadays, I'm in the works of expanding my collection and sharing her music with others in my city (crack-smoking mayor, anyone? ...facepalm). To this day, Nana's singing and voice-acting have meant a lot to me, and I admire her for her strength and fortitude, which she also brings to all her fans. Although I have branched out into several genres of music (salsa, tango, trance, prog-rock...not to mention a ton of Japanese techno and electro-pop), she will always remain my favourite singer and voice-actress. It is kind of unfortunate that she doesn't really have the same kind of solid (if small) fanbase like Perfume or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (her show was great) here in Canada and North America for that matter. Then that just means that we've got to get more fans onboard then Most people that I know don't really understand my interests with Japanese pop music and popular culture (marketing, sub-cultures etc). It doesn't help that I study cities like Tokyo/NYC/London in my field either, but that's OK. In any case, I am happy and proud to call Nana my first and favourite singer, and to get that musical exposure from her now as I did years ago. I mean with songs like Albireo (my favourite) , Heart-shaped chant, and Thermidor Vingt-Sept (incredible 2011 performance), who can resist?

Welcome dm23! Another great story. So cool to see someone who has Albireo as their favorite, I think it's so underrated from Impact Exciter. Hopefully your experiences with sharing her music has been positive. I never know what to share with my friends because she has a lot of different music styles and for a lot of them they've never listened to Japanese music before so it's extremely different for what they've listened to that they don't know how to process it haha.

I've been listening to Nana since 2009-2010, so I'm pretty "new" to J-pop compared to others here haha

Maybe it's a little weird and late to say this hot0rikun967, but I read your story, and I wanted to tell you that you can be proud of what you wrote. It was beautiful to read, and like relmy said, it also left me teary-eyed. It's hard to write about these things, I know I have trouble with it a lot. Anway, I just really wanted to reply on this (Even though this thread is from last year) because I have been in a simular situation. I can quite relate to what you have felt. Nana got me through so much too, and it took me a while to realize that. She will forever have a place in my heart. You said that Nana helped you finding a sense of identity, and I think I understand what you mean by that. When I first listened to her songs, it felt really new and refreshing, a place where I could actually be myself. I feel like I'm home when I listen to her songs. Where I'm supposed to be, save and warm. And that might sound off, but I really feel that way. I don't know what this 'home' that I feel is though. Rosario+Vampire was the first anime that I watched where Nana had a role in, singing the opening and ending themes, as well as voice acting. That's how I slowly got more into her and her music. Because of that, the " Trickster" and " STARCAMP EP" also mean a lot to me too. Especially Trinity Cross, since I could really feel the sensation of letting go of pain and loneliness in this song. Your story wasn't disturbing at all, it was honest and warm. Thanks so much for sharing it. ♡

Thanks for posting that, @ℓoro. hot0rikun967 is such a treasure to this board and that post is exactly why. He's so courageous to post something so heartfelt. And it makes me really sad he doesn't post as much (or it feels like that to me), it feels like there is a huge void. He introduced the whole board to a vault of rare Nana songs, all meticulously organized just because he loves her so much. You should go check out the download section for that. And then there is his epic all-time Nana songs list. With EVERY song ranked. He was kind enough to share his method of ranking the songs with me so I could possibly do that one day. My personal favorite thing is he had something positive to say about every Nana song. Every single one! It was so enjoyable to read his reviews. I could tell he was completely genuine, which is why it was my favorite thing. hot0rikun967, if you're reading this, I hope there are some gems in the upcoming album for you. It makes me feel really sad re-reading this post and then reading that post you made in Angel Blossom, where you said you may be losing that spark in Nana. But I understand. You can't force those feelings.

*Turns on "SUPER GENERATION"* ... Oh my gosh, I don't even know what to say. Umm. Well, I'm going to be remembering those comments for a long while to come. I didn't think that's how anyone thought about me. I mean, you guys have to understand that for many years I was ridiculed for liking such "weird" music and for things like choosing to watch a Youtube upload of Livedom -Birth- over going to a friends' house haha. Gosh, I was fifteen then. But, yeah, wow. Umm. I'm sorry, I'm just really taken aback right now. I have a tendency to think people think the worst of me, and so, one of the reasons I've been so absent recently is because I thought my excited postings and creation of weird threads was making me look creepy or strange. I did considered reviewing "Exterminate" but I backed off. It's not that anyone here ever made me feel like that was the case; that's just where my mind wanders off to because of how it used to be when I was a teenager (oh gosh, I'm twenty-one, what happened?) What you posted, stranger, made me tear up. That was just...I feel so...i don't even know the word for it. Here I thought I was this overexcited, oversentimental weirdo, and then your post made me feel so appreciated and turned all of those thoughts I had about myself on their heads. So, thank you. Ahh. Wow. Heh heh. One of the other reasons I haven't been as active is that I've had to take on a lot of adult responsibilities this year, which is great--I'm really thankful to be where I am now--but it's a transition, you know? I know that has to do with the comment I made on the Angel Blossom thread about losing that spark. I believe that, more or less, the feeling I was describing was the result of a very abrupt transition in my life. As if there was no time for wonderment and excitement. In the last month or two, however, I've been working through that feeling and recapturing my creative side through my writing and making a small tumblr for myself, and, yes, through Nana as well. I've been listening to the "Exterminate" single constantly! But anyway, enough about my life haha. I didn't think a post I made more than a year ago would even be read now let alone mean anything to anyone. Thank you for reading it, ℓoro, an for your kind words, and for sharing the feelings you get when you listen to Nana. And I'm so thankful for your words, stranger. I didn't even know I needed to hear something like that, but with the way this last month has been going, I really did. So thank you. I think I'm going to do my best to come back and post more. This forum has been really important to me since I joined because no where else do I get to talk about Nana's music as in-depth as we all do, and everyone here has given me a great sense of belonging that I never had back when I first started listening to the music I love. So to everyone here, thank you all very much. It may be a little late, but maybe I will review "Exterminate" heh heh

Aww don't worry about whoever may think you're "weird". They're probably the same people who do nothing but drink beer and play call of duty after they graduate high school. And if you remember Nana's biography Shin'ai, she also went through the same thing. And she still has anxiety about autographing anything because of how she was teased about that. I find the people who tease are usually jealous. I'm sure they were jealous of Nana's determination to become a singer.
I look forward to your review of Exterminate if you do it! I'm curious of what you think of It's Only Brave (since it puts me in a good mood the same way how Super Generation does, one of your favorite songs also). ℓoro is also going to review the singles of this era too! Do it if you have time though, adult responsibilities do come first, and you can review the single any time!

My venture into Japanese music first began with videogames. I'd been playing RPG's by a company called Nihon Falcom for a while and at the time I didn't really bother listening to their vocal songs which were of course in Japanese as I thought that if I couldn't understand the lyrics then it was pointless. However, one day I decided to stop being picky and instead listen to it from a performance perspective and see if I could focus on enjoying the performance. This was around sometime in 2013/2014 and I actually found myself enjoying the vocal tracks from a performance perspective.
After that I didn't really listen to any other Japanese songs other then Falcom's vocal tracks but that changed during the summer of 2014 when a friend of mine and I were discussing Japanese music. I played him a little bit of one of Falcom's vocal songs and in return he played me a song I thought I'd like and I did. He told me it was from an anime and after describing the anime it was from, I became interested so I decided to watch it later that day. I'd never really watched anime that much as I didn't really have any interest in it but after watching the anime my friend told me about, I became hooked. The anime in question was Sword Art Online and the song in question was LiSA's "crossing field" and I became hooked on both.
As time went on, I began to watch more and more Japanese animes and in doing so I was able to discover lots of great Japanese singers and anime bands/groups including Eir Aoi, nano, Aqours, μ’s, Hokago Tea Time, Poppin' Party, Haruka Tomatsu, Haruna Luna, Ayahi Takagaki, Girls Dead Monster, marina, ZHIEND, How-Low-Hello, Roselia, and of course our very own Nana Mizuki.

This is super late, but thank you for sharing your story! I'm also a fan of Nihon Falcom's games, particularly the Legend of Heroes/Trails series (and I've recently dipped into Ys 7, which I'm also enjoying!).

Nice Good to know there's more fans of the series and the company out there I've still yet to play Ys 8 and I am waiting for the day when Trails of Cold Steel III is eventually localized XD
