7-gatsu 7-ka for me. Ballads are hit or miss for me, but I've always enjoyed 7-gatsu 7-ka (one of the few tracks from IE I really love). Zettaiteki is OK but 7-gatsu sounds more fresh even though it's so old.

NEXT ARCADIA easily beats UNLIMITED BEAT. I must say UB is growing more on me after hearing the full version, but it's still pretty generic and outdated by now. Still enjoy it despite that. But at the same time, NEXT ARCADIA has been performed so many times by now... I like the song a lot but seeing it at lives so many times feels like it makes the uniqueness of the song slowly fade away.
Kimi Yo Sakebe or Chinmoku No Kajitsu? (Somehow I feel like they are simular... I must be going nuts.)

You're not nuts, I also find there are some similarities! And I agree with your opinion of UNLIMITED BEAT, which I'm not very impressed with at all, haha.
Currently I like Kimi Yo Sakebe more, but that's probably just because it's newer. I see it ending up in a similar place as Chinmoku in my mind.
GLORIA or Bokura no Mirai?

This one is very interesting. Both are similar in the sense that they sound dated and familiar, but in different ways. For Bokura no Mirai's case, it is familiar in a comforting way, since it is Yabuki Toshiro's signature sound that made her (and Makkun) famous in the first place. For that reason, it can also get away as sounding dated, as it sounds like a tribute and it's just for one track. However, for GLORIA, familiar and dated don't work in this case. The enjoyable parts in GLORIA are undermined by the production. It's supposed to be a cyber-dance song according to her blog post, yet it fails when I compare it to top tier songs in that genre (that succeed in not sounding dated as well). It sounds like of those filler tracks I'd skip on a Fhana album. So I'll give my vote to Bokura no Mirai!

Definitely PERFECT SMILE. That song is so sweet and cute. It cheers me up when I feel a bit down. I actually haven't searched for a translation for this song yet... Need to do that soon.
First Calender isn't bad but it's not that unique to me. Haven't seen any live performances of it too so maybe that will change my opinion of it. I don't like her voice too much in the studio version. I find myself skipping the song while listening to GREAT ACTIVITY sometimes.
Just because I don't know anything better at the moment...
STAND or STAND UP!?

Post by Sai on Jan 3, 2017 4:17:34 GMT -4
STAND UP!, definitely! STAND is pleasant enough and gives me good memories of LIVE DIAMOND, but STAND UP! is by far my favourite song on NC and one of my favourite recent Nana songs in general. I can't get enough of it right now.
WAKE UP THE SOULS or Bring it on!?

Gotta give it to Bring it on! I find that Bring it on! is much more unique, catchier and edgier.
Meguri Au Subete Ni or Zettaiteki Kofukuron (album opener vs album closer!)?

Zettaiteki Kofukuron is more melodic. I choose that one.
JEWEL or Karen Moyou? Inb4 I'm the only one who likes these songs.

Karen Moyou for me right now definitely! That song is amazing, wish she'd perform it more to be honest. It has such a warming and lovely melody. I think it's actually one of my faves of IE.
Not sure if this one has been done but Glorious Break or UNLIMITED BEAT?

あの日夢見た願い (Ano hi Yume mita Negai) or めぐり逢うすべてに (Meguri Au Subete Ni)
note: according to nana these 2 songs are related to each other like how Crescent Child related to ALONE ARROWS

Takaramono / deep sea
|
|
|
Post by Sai on Jan 7, 2017 6:36:31 GMT -4
I like both, but Takaramono strikes me as more generic-sounding than deep sea, as far as her ballads go. I like deep sea's atmosphere better, definitely. It's a little darker, a little more somber, a little more mysterious.
STARTING NOW! or RODEO COWGIRL?
As much as these songs have grown on me, I still can't forgive Nana for putting two subpar poprock towel-swinging songs on one album, and for making one of them a single no less. I was thinking earlier that if, say, STAND UP! had been a single instead of SN!, I'd have been way more amped about Nana in 2016.

Oopsie, Sai was first! Replied on Zoehall but was too late, lol!
I'd say STARTING NOW! I still feel like that song deserves a place next to her other good pop rock songs like Aoi Iro, but that's just me. I must agree with you on what you said though. If STAND UP! was an A-side single, it would've been better. But SUPERNAL LIBERTY had the same thing with both Setsuna Capacity and Rock you baby! and to be honest, STARTING NOW! and RODEO COWGIRL are on a way higher level than those tracks!
